Remember When...? Old Stuff From The Computer!
Hi! My name is Jerome and I'm seven! Today I'm gonna tell you about… stuff. Old stuff! My big brother Timmy showed me this website called Newgrounds. It’s kinda like YouTube, but way older. He said it was where all the cool memes came from before memes were even called memes! It’s kinda confusing.
Timmy says a long time ago, when he was a little kid (which is SO long ago!), people made little movies on the computer. Not like Pixar movies, they were… wobbly. And silly. He showed me one where a guy was just… moving his mouth to a song! It was called Numa Numa. It was so funny 'cause he was making really funny faces!
Then he showed me a unicorn. But it wasn't a sparkly, pretty unicorn. This one was… hard to find. People were looking really hard for this unicorn named Charlie. It was kinda weird, but Timmy laughed a LOT.
And get this! There was a man made of RUST! Like, old metal! His name was Salad Fingers and he liked rusty spoons. SPOONS! Timmy said it was spooky, and I kinda believe him. It made me shiver.
Timmy also told me about this thing everyone yelled. It said, “ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!” He said it came from a video game, but it didn't make any sense! It was just… a funny thing to shout.
He showed me a movie with LOTS of people fighting! Like, Batman and… a hot dog? And a bunch of other characters I didn’t know. It was called Ultimate Showdown! It was super long and very noisy.
There was also a song about… love? It had a weird picture with a heart. And a llama! A silly llama singing a song! And someone said they "could eat a knob at night" which Timmy said was a joke and I'm not supposed to say.
Timmy told me there was even a guy named Dick Neck. I'm not supposed to say that either! It was just a joke people had on the website.
He said lots of people made little cartoons and put them online. Like dancing bananas! And badgers! Badgers, badgers, badgers! It was a very silly website.
Timmy says Newgrounds was important because it’s where all the funny internet stuff started. Before TikTok and Instagram and everything! It was like a playground for making silly things and sharing them with everyone. It was kinda cool, even if it was old and wobbly.
I think it’s neat that all these old things are still around. It’s like finding treasure! Maybe someday I will make a silly cartoon on the computer! But probably not about rusty spoons. That's kinda spooky.
