A Slightly Sweaty Guide to a Slightly Less Chaotic Home Office - By Leo Parks

Okay, so, um, hi everyone. Leo Parks here. And, well, my home office… it was a bit of a mess. A lot of a mess, actually. I was trying to find a really detailed guide online, with, like, specific measurements and everything, but the internet seemed to be having a day. A bad day. So, I’m just going to share what I’ve been trying to do, and hopefully it helps someone else who, you know, isn’t naturally gifted at organization like some people are.

Honestly, the first step was just… scary. It was decluttering. Just getting rid of stuff. Old papers, pens that don’t work, that promotional stress ball from the accounting conference in 2022… it felt harsh, but it really did make a difference. I kept almost throwing out a chipped mug my aunt gave me, but then I thought, “What if she asks about it?” So it stayed. But everything else? Gone. Or, you know, in a box in the garage. Let's call that 'future sorting'.

Then I read somewhere about “zoning.” It sounds very official, but basically it just means trying to keep things that go together… together. I have a corner for my computer, obviously, and then a little area with a comfy chair for reading reports. Though, I mostly use that chair to, um, think. And maybe browse cat videos. Don’t tell anyone. The idea is to have a spot for everything, so you're not, like, trying to balance a stack of files on your knee while you’re on a video call.

Space is always a problem in my little office, so I’m trying to go up. Shelves are good. Really good. And those wall-mounted organizers? Surprisingly helpful. I got some with little pockets for pens and sticky notes, and it feels very… efficient.

And then there are the cords. Oh, the cords. They were a nightmare. Tangled, tripping hazards. I tried some cable ties, and honestly, it made a huge difference. My ankles are thanking me.

The hardest part, though? Maintaining it. I keep promising myself I’ll spend five minutes at the end of the day just tidying up. Some days I do. Some days… I don’t. But even a little bit helps, I think. It’s a work in progress, definitely.

So yeah, that’s my attempt at a home office makeover. It's not perfect, and I'm sure there are experts who would cringe at my methods, but it’s… better. And that’s what counts, right?
