Michigan Endures: Real Cold & Whispers of a Warming Trend!

A Chill in the Air, But Hope on the Horizon

Folks, let’s talk about the weather. And frankly, let's talk about resilience. Here in Michigan, we’re no strangers to a bit of cold, and today is no exception. Lansing is currently sitting at a brisk 27 degrees – feels like 19, if you need a reminder what real cold feels like. A good, honest chill. The kind that builds character.

I looked at the numbers, and the wind's coming from the Northwest at 7 miles per hour. Not a gale, mind you, but enough to remind you winter isn’t quite done with us yet. Sunrise was a respectable 7:27 this morning, thank goodness for a little light, and we’ve got until 7:59 to enjoy it.

Now, the talking heads over at WILX are issuing a “First Alert” for Monday night and Tuesday. Rain and thunderstorms, they say. Honestly, a little rain never hurt anyone. We used to welcome rain, back when things were simpler. A good soaking was good for the crops, good for the soul.

But they’re predicting thunderstorms, and that’s where I start to worry. Seems like every storm is more dramatic than the last these days. You can’t trust the forecasts anymore.

Still, there’s good news on the horizon, literally. They’re saying we’re looking at a warming trend this weekend. A warming trend! A little sunshine and a few warmer degrees can do wonders for the spirit. Wyoming, over in the 49509 zip code, is reporting partly cloudy skies, so things aren't all bad.

We Michiganders are a tough bunch. We’ll bundle up, we’ll shovel the snow, and we’ll weather whatever comes our way. Just like our forefathers did. And we’ll do it with a smile, and a little bit of grit. Because that's the Michigan way.
