Ape News Flash: Newgrounds Memes Are…Something Else

By H.R. Rambe, Ape News Senior Correspondent

It has come to my attention – through diligent research conducted by my team here at Ape News – that a significant portion of the human internet’s humor is currently originating from a website called “Newgrounds.” Honestly, the name doesn’t inspire confidence. But the memes… the memes are a phenomenon.

We at Ape News pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve. Understanding the intricacies of human amusement is vital to maintaining interspecies relations. And right now, a lot of that amusement seems to be built on layers of abstract imagery and looping animations.

According to the largest meme community on the internet, 9GAG, the current Newgrounds vanguard consists of things identified as “awy2y3r”, “amoQdnd”, “abAoGVv”, “aPAV7oK”, “a9y4Y1o”, “aByjXWQ”, and “aW4NwKq”.

I’ve seen these. I’ve had my team analyze them. Honestly? It’s…challenging. They appear to be short, often intentionally crude animations, frequently featuring distorted figures and unsettling sounds. Apparently, the appeal lies in their absurdity and the speed at which they cycle through variations. It’s like watching a particularly frantic kaleidoscope.

My initial assessment was confusion. My second was mild alarm. My third, after prolonged exposure, was…a hesitant acknowledgment that something is happening here. There’s a chaotic energy, a raw, unfiltered creativity that is…different.

Humans seem to enjoy decoding these snippets, sharing altered versions, and deriving amusement from the unexpected. It's a far cry from the banana-based humor we apes prefer, but who are we to judge?

Ape News will continue to monitor this Newgrounds situation. We suspect there is a deeper cultural significance at play, possibly involving a subconscious desire for glitch aesthetics and a rejection of conventional narrative structures. Or maybe humans just like weird, rapidly flashing pictures.

Stay tuned to Ape News for further updates. We'll attempt to make sense of the chaos, for you, our valued readers. And for the sake of interspecies understanding.
