It's Cold—Please Be Careful Out There

A Bit Brisk Out There, Folks

Good morning, everyone. Leo Parks here with a quick weather update. It’s… well, it’s cold. Really cold, actually.

I checked weather.com – they seem to know their stuff, apparently they’ve been the most accurate for the last few years according to something called ForecastWatch – and things aren't looking too cheerful.

Here in Chicago, it's currently overcast and pretty windy. The temperature is sitting at 29 degrees Fahrenheit, and the wind is whipping in from the north-northeast at 25 to 35 miles per hour. So, yeah, bundle up if you’re heading out. Honestly, I’m considering just staying inside with a hot drink. Humidity’s at 78%, which just makes the cold feel… wetter.

They also had a quick note about East Lansing, Michigan. Apparently, it's similarly chilly up there. You can check the forecast yourself on weather.com if you're curious.

It’s interesting, though, reading about some of the really extreme weather events. They mentioned this “Carrington Event” from way back in 1859 – a huge solar storm that caused auroras even in Florida! And messed up telegraphs. Kind of puts a brisk Chicago morning into perspective, doesn’t it? Thankfully, we have these GOES satellites now monitoring the sun, which is… good. Very good.

Anyway, that’s the weather. Stay warm, everyone, and try not to get blown away! And, uh, be nice to each other out there. It’s always a good idea, really. Oh, and the moon rises at 12:09 pm today, if anyone was wondering.
