TURTLES AND LASERS AND HERO DOGS!

Good Stuff Happening! (By Jerome Skinly, Age 7)

Hi! I'm Jerome and I write for Jape News! My teacher said even little kids can tell people about important stuff, so I'm gonna tell you about all the good stuff happening in the world! It's not ALL bad, you know!

First, guess what? People are helping turtles! Like, REALLY helping! In Thailand and Florida, they told tourists to stay away from the beaches so the leatherback turtles could lay their eggs. And it WORKED! There are SO MANY more turtle babies now! That makes me happy ‘cause turtles are cool.

And speaking of cool animals, scientists are protecting puffins! Puffins are like little colorful penguins, but they fly! There's only ONE puffin place in the USA, and the scientists are keeping it safe. That's a good job!

Even birds like poopy places! There’s a farm in Melbourne, Australia, that used to be for… well, you know… poop stuff. But now, 300 DIFFERENT kinds of birds live there! That's a LOT of birds! It just goes to show, even yucky places can be good for someone.

Way up in space, NASA sent a message with lasers! Not like laser tag, but a super fast light message from PAST Mars! That’s so far! It's like yelling REALLY REALLY loud, but with light! They say it’s gonna help people talk to robots on other planets. That’s neat!

And get this – people are making a REALLY REALLY long tunnel under mountains in Austria and Italy! It's the longest tunnel EVER! That means trains can go faster and it'll be easier to visit different places! Maybe I can go to Italy someday!

Even people are being good! A dog saved his owner from a BEAR! A BEAR! That dog is a HERO! He got a special award, which he deserves. And people are helping people from North Korea tell their stories. That's important.

Oh! And a lady in San Francisco is trying to help people open a cafe! Cafes have yummy treats, so that’s good too!

And even a long time ago, people were making cool stuff! They found drawings of camels near places with water, from like, a REALLY long time ago! Like, before my grandma was even born!

See? There’s lots of good stuff happening. Sometimes you just gotta look for it! My mom says that’s important. I think so too.
