Hold onto Your Hats, Folks! The Internet is Having a Moment - By Bronbus Quitley
Well hello there, Jape News readers! Bronbus Quitley here, bringing you the latest and greatest from the thrilling world of… well, everything being hacked! Honestly, it’s been a week, a week I tell you. Reminds me of the time I tried to build a robot butler. Didn’t go well. Too many wires, not enough…enthusiasm. But I digress! Let's talk about the digital chaos.
First off, this thing called “n8n” – sounds like a sleepy pigeon, doesn't it? – apparently has a HUGE problem. CISA, those lovely folks who try to keep us safe from digital baddies, are saying it's being actively exploited! Exploited! It's like leaving the cookie jar open and then being surprised when the raccoons come calling. They’re calling it CVE-2025-68613, which, if you ask me, sounds like a very specific strain of the common cold. There's another n8n problem too, CVE-2026-27577 and CVE-2026-27493, practically a double whammy of digital doom!
And speaking of things going wrong… Perplexity AI, that fancy browser? Tricked! Yes, tricked by researchers in under FOUR MINUTES! Four minutes! I take longer than that to find my keys. It seems these "agentic" browsers, which basically think for themselves, aren't as smart as they think they are. It's a good reminder that even the smartest machines can fall for a cleverly worded email promising you a free yacht. Don't fall for it, folks! Yachts are expensive.
Now, Meta, those social media giants, did something good for once. They took down 150,000 accounts linked to scam centers! 150,000! That's...a lot of scammers. They even arrested 21 of them, which is good, because honestly, someone needed to do something. I tried arresting a squirrel who was stealing birdseed once, but it didn't end well. Apparently, you need a warrant for that.
Microsoft had a busy Tuesday. Eighty-four vulnerabilities patched! Eighty-four! That’s like, a lot of holes plugged. Two of them were “zero-days,” which sounds terrifying, and also vaguely like a James Bond movie. I think zero-days mean they didn’t even know about the holes until just now. Spooky!
Then there’s this group called UNC6426. Sounds like a Star Wars droid, right? But they’re not building droids, they're hacking into things using this “nx npm” thing. Apparently, they got AWS admin access in 72 hours. Which is fast. Very fast. I once tried to assemble a bookcase in 72 hours, and it looked like a cubist nightmare.
Oh, and Rust. Not the stuff that makes cars rusty, but a programming language. Apparently, some bad guys are hiding malicious code in these “crates” – which, I’m told, are like software building blocks – and stealing your .env files! What are .env files? Honestly, I have no clue, but it sounds important.
And let’s not forget the FortiGate firewalls being exploited, the LeakBase forum getting shut down (good riddance!), and the leader of the Phobos ransomware group facing 20 years in jail! It’s a whirlwind, I tell you, a digital whirlwind!
Plus, Cisco has firewall problems. Firewall problems! That’s like a lifeguard drowning. It just doesn’t make sense!
Honestly, it's enough to make you want to disconnect and go live in a cabin in the woods. But then you’d miss out on my insightful reporting! So, stay safe out there, keep your software updated, and for goodness sake, don’t click on any links from strangers promising you a free yacht.
