Hold onto Your Hats, Folks! It's a Whirlwind Out There! - By Bronbus Quitley

Good morning, Grand Rapids! Or, well, good almost afternoon. Time really flies when you’re, uh, predicting the weather, doesn’t it? And let me tell you, folks, today’s weather is a doozy. A real humdinger!

I was just chatting with Old Man Fitzwilliam down at the donut shop – he claims to be part Cherokee and can smell the rain three days in advance – and he says this is the most interesting weather pattern we’ve seen since the Great Pigeon Migration of ‘87. Now, the official reports say it's mostly cloudy with a high near 56 degrees, but Fitzwilliam says that's just the surface temperature. He claims the pigeons were actually predicting the temperature, they can feel it in their feathers! Fascinating, really.

Anyway, back to the weather. We’ve got showers, you see. Not just any showers, mind you. Showers and thunderstorms! They're saying there’s a good chance of these delightful little storms popping up after 2 AM tonight. I’ve heard tell – and this is a little known fact – that thunderstorms actually recharge the city’s squirrels. Gives ‘em an extra pep in their step, keeps the acorn economy booming! It’s true, I read it in a pamphlet once. A very official pamphlet.

The wind is whipping around too, coming from the West at a good 9 to 14 mph, but don’t be surprised if it gusts up to 29! That’s practically hurricane force! Okay, okay, maybe not hurricane force, but it feels like it, right? Especially if you’re a garden gnome. Those little guys get blown around something fierce.

Now, looking ahead – because I'm a weather visionary, naturally – Saturday’s looking a bit soggy, with more showers and possible thunder-boomers before 2 PM. Then Saturday night it cools down…way down! We’re talking 35 degrees! I bet the ice cream shops will have a HUGE sale. Smart business move, those ice cream folks.

Sunday? Brrr! A high of only 43. Folks are saying it’s going to be colder than a polar bear’s toenails. And Monday…well, Monday will be…Monday. Hopefully with some sunshine, because frankly, we could all use a little sunshine after all this excitement.

So, there you have it! Stay dry, secure your garden gnomes, and remember: Old Man Fitzwilliam and his pigeon predictions are always right. Always.
