A Chill Wind Blows – Are We Headed For Another Polar Vortex?

Folks, I’m looking out my window here at Jape News headquarters and let me tell you, it doesn’t feel like April. Fifty-nine degrees, they say? Feels more like November, with that damp chill right through your bones. And 88% humidity? Honestly, it's practically soup out there.

Now, the so-called “experts” are calling it a late-season winter storm. A late-season storm. What happened to spring? Seems like we skipped right over it. They're talking about snow and sleet up in the Upper Midwest, and while Grand Rapids might not get the full brunt of it, we’re certainly getting a taste. Showers and storms predicted for tonight, they say, and “severe weather possible.”

Severe weather in April. It just isn’t right.

I remember when seasons were predictable. You had your summer, your fall, your winter, and your spring. Now it’s all mixed up. Folks are saying it's climate change, but I’m telling you, it's a lack of respect for the natural order. We've lost touch with the land, with the rhythms of the earth. We need to get back to basics.

The forecast isn’t much better. A brief respite tomorrow – 52 degrees and dry, thankfully – but then more rain and a dip back down to 36 on Saturday. And then, get this, 44 degrees on Sunday! Honestly, you’d think it was March all over again.

This isn’t just about being uncomfortable, folks. This kind of unpredictable weather messes with our agriculture, it drives up energy costs, and it just generally disrupts the good, solid American way of life.

Let’s hope this is just a blip, a temporary glitch in the system. But I’m starting to worry… are we headed for another polar vortex? We need to be prepared, and we need to remember that Mother Nature is a force to be reckoned with. And frankly, a little bit of respect for her wouldn’t go amiss.
