Why is the News So FAST?! - By Jerome Skinly
Hi! I'm Jerome and I like dinosaurs and juice boxes. My dad watches the news a LOT. But it's kinda weird. Like, one minute it’s about a dog that got lost, and then FIVE MINUTES LATER it’s about…um…rocks? And then a lady singing?
I asked my dad why it changes so fast. He said it’s called a “news cycle.” It sounds like a bike! But it's not a bike.
He tried to explain. He said someone sees something happen, then reporters go ask about it. Like detectives! Then they write it down, and then everyone sees it on TV or the computer. But then, something else happens, so they have to write about THAT too! It's like a game of tag, but with stories.
My dad said before, the news came out when the paperboy came. That’s a person who throws papers! But NOW it’s ALL THE TIME. Like, right now! Because of the computers. He said it’s good because we know things FAST, but sometimes they mess up and say the wrong thing 'cause they gotta be quick.
He said there's SO MUCH news now, it’s like trying to eat all the cookies in the whole world! And sometimes people make up news that isn’t true. That’s silly. You shouldn’t do that.
I still don’t totally get it. It just seems like a lot. I think I’ll stick to dinosaur books. They don't change every five minutes. And they’re WAY more interesting than rocks, probably.
