Hold onto Your Hats (and Maybe Your Yachts!), Grand Rapids! - By Bronbus Quitley
Good morning, Grand Rapids! Or, well, good something. It’s…atmospheric out there, isn’t it? I just checked, and my barometer (it’s a lovely antique, gifted to me by a surprisingly nimble penguin I met in Antarctica – long story) is going absolutely wild. Wild, I tell you!
Right now, it’s a brisk 31 degrees, which, fun fact, is exactly the same temperature as a penguin’s feet! Probably. I haven’t actually measured a penguin’s foot temperature, but I’m fairly confident. Anyway, there’s a definite chill in the air, a wind chill of 20, which means if you lick a flagpole, it’ll… well, it won't be pleasant. Don’t lick flagpoles. I said that as a public service announcement.
But don’t let the cold fool you, folks! We’re in for a doozy today. They’re saying showers, thunderstorms, the whole shebang. A 100% chance of precipitation! That's not just rain, that's a commitment! A watery dedication to getting us all delightfully damp. They predict between half an inch and three quarters of an inch of rain. Three quarters of an inch! That’s almost enough to float a small rubber ducky armada!
I’m predicting, and this is a Quitley exclusive, that we might even see…wait for it…rainbow trout falling from the sky! Okay, probably not. But a guy can dream, right? I mean, they say lightning never strikes the same place twice, but they also don't account for airborne trout.
And it's not just today! Oh no, no, no. This is a multi-day water extravaganza! Friday? Showers. Saturday? More showers. It's like the weather is saying, "Grand Rapids, I love you, and I want to wash you!" Sunday looks a little calmer, down to a mere 44 degrees, but still cloudy. Probably still a good day to stay inside and practice your interpretive dance about the migratory patterns of the lesser spotted newt.
So, to summarize: Bundle up, grab your umbrellas (and maybe a fishing net, just in case), and prepare for a week of wonderfully wet weather! And remember, if you see a penguin, tell him Bronbus says hello!
