Static in the Atmosphere

Look, I’ve seen a lot of weather. Grew up practically inside the tubes, you see. Before everyone had a pocket-sized portal to everything, we had BBSs, and before those we had… well, we had to actually look out the window. And believe me, Michigan weather has always been a glitch in the system.

Right now, here in Grand Rapids, it feels like the system’s buffering. Forty degrees, overcast, wind coming outta the north like a forgotten dial-up connection. They’re calling for a high of 48, which, honestly, is generous. Feels more like a persistent error message.

Old-timers would say it’s “April showers,” but I remember April being… more chaotic. More unpredictable. Less grey. Back in the day, a grey day meant the phone lines were overloaded, not just a bit of dampness. You could feel the data packets struggling to get through.

They’re predicting a 40% chance of rain tonight. Forty percent. That's a generous estimate. It’s always more. It’s like a buffer overflow, really. The atmosphere just… can’t hold it all. Then tomorrow? They’re saying almost 70, with thunderstorms. A full system reboot, probably.

I swear, this weather is trying to tell us something. Maybe it's just saying the servers are down. Maybe it's a denial-of-service attack from the clouds. Either way, I'm stocking up on hot beverages and preparing for a long night of waiting for the connection to stabilize. And maybe, just maybe, hoping for a little bit of static. It’s… comforting, in a weird way. Reminds me of home.
