UNNATURAL SWINGS: Is Mother Nature Sending Us a Message?

A Bit of a Chill, But Don't Let It Fool You – Nature's Still Acting Up!
Grand Rapids woke up to a rather…grey day, folks. A mild 53 degrees, they say, but that wind whipping in from the southwest makes it feel like 49. Not exactly beach weather, is it? A man needs a good sweater these days, I tell ya. Back in my day, 53 degrees meant you were reaching for the heavy coat!
But while we’re bundling up here in Michigan, let’s not think we’re escaping the weirdness. The reports are coming in – down south, they're practically sweltering! Over 100 records are expected to be broken, folks. Broken! In March! It’s just…unnatural. And not the good kind of natural, like a hearty snowfall in December.
Now, some folks will tell you this is all about…well, you know. The climate changing. I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but when you see temperatures this out of whack, it gives a patriotic man pause. Seems like everything is just…extreme these days. Extreme weather, extreme politics, extreme everything.
They're also warning about fire danger down in the Plains and Southeast. Dry conditions and warm weather are a dangerous combination. Good, responsible citizens down there need to be careful with anything that could spark a blaze. We need to be vigilant, folks!
And while we're enjoying this brief respite from truly bitter cold here in the Midwest – don't get comfortable! The ten-day forecast shows swings from the 30s all the way up to 70. A man can’t plan a garden with weather like that.
Now, The Weather Channel is boasting about being the most accurate forecaster. Well, good for them. I always say, a good forecast is a useful thing. But even the best forecasters can’t control Mother Nature. All we can do is be prepared, and maybe say a little prayer for some good, old-fashioned, predictable weather.
