A Dampening of the American Spirit? Cloudy Skies Over Grand Rapids

Folks, let’s be honest. The weather… well, it’s trying to bring us down. Here in Heartside, Grand Rapids, we’re looking at a grey, drizzly day. A mere 60 degrees, they say. Sixty! Back in my day, sixty degrees in April meant you were reaching for your winter coat, not questioning if you needed a sweater.

Now, I'm not saying this is some kind of deliberate attack on our way of life, but you have to ask yourself – is this just coincidence? They tell us it’s just a typical spring shower, a bit of moisture from the southeast winds. Thirty percent chance of rain, they chirp. Thirty percent! That's thirty percent too many, if you ask me.

The National Weather Service, bless their hearts, is warning of showers and thunderstorms stretching all the way across the eastern third of the nation. Cooler temperatures, they say. Cooler! Seems like every time we start to gain a little momentum, a little sunshine, they throw a cloud over it.

I remember a time when a little rain didn't ruin everyone’s day. People used to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, go to work, and make the sunshine. Now, everyone's huddled indoors, complaining about the weather.

I checked the forecast – and frankly, the whole thing is just disheartening. Cloudy now, cloudy later, maybe a bit of rain. It’s enough to make a patriotic man wonder what this country is coming to.

We need to remember that a little weather isn’t something to be defeated. It’s something to be endured. It's a test of our character. So go on, brave the drizzle, and remember what made this nation great. Don't let a little rain dampen your spirit.
