Uh Oh! Bad Guys on the Computers! - By Jerome Skinly
Hi! I'm Jerome and I write for Jape News! My mom says there's been lots of trouble with computers lately. Like, bad guys are trying to get in! It's kinda like when my little brother tries to sneak cookies when Mom isn't looking.
So, some people are using robots… but not the fun kind! They’re using computer robots called “AI” to make the bad stuff happen faster. They use them to break websites and find secrets. But good guys are also using AI to try and stop them! It’s like a robot battle!
There was a thing with a website called Gitea. It lets people share stuff, but someone found a hole and could see everyone’s pictures and games even if they didn't want them to! That's not nice. Microsoft, who makes some games, fixed a problem in their Sharepoint thing too. It was letting bad guys control your computer if they tricked you.
And get this! Someone tricked a learning website, KnowledgeDeliver, and put a virus on it! A virus is like a cold for your computer, but worse.
There are groups of bad guys with silly names. Like JINX-0164, they're stealing pretend money called cryptocurrency. And there's MuddyWater, they're from Iran and like to sneak into computers. And Lazarus Group! They use a secret robot thing to steal money. It's like a whole bunch of sneaky people!
My mom said it's really important to be careful what you click on, 'cause sometimes bad guys hide things inside apps and websites. There was even a sneaky thing in a program called “mouse5212-super-formatter” that stole pictures!
And GitHub, where people put their computer games and stuff, got broken into! Someone took a LOT of secret files. That's like if someone stole all the LEGO instructions!
Even worse, someone is using robots to make you click on bad links so they can steal power from your computer! That's what my mom said. It's called cryptojacking.
So remember to tell a grown-up if something looks weird on the computer! And don’t click on anything you don't know! It's a big mess out there in computer land.
