Hi! I'm Jerome and I like video games A LOT. My big brother tells me all about the stuff inside the game machines and it's kinda cool, but also REALLY confusing. I'm gonna try to tell you about it!
So, there's this thing called a graphics card. It makes the pictures on the screen! There's a new one from MSI, it's called the… uh… RTX 5090 Lightning Z. It's super fast, my brother says, but it costs a LOT of allowance money. And it's BIG! You need a really, really big space inside your game machine for it. But uh oh! Someone’s graphics card caught on fire! That's scary! They're trying to fix that.
Nvidia, that’s the company that makes the cards, figured out how to make it cheaper to make them! That’s good, maybe they won't cost SO much. They are also making a new kind of memory for the cards, it’s like… brain for the card? And it's super fast!
My brother also told me about… processors. They're like the brain of the whole game machine! Intel is making a REALLY big brain, with FIFTY TWO parts! It needs a special new board to work, a 900-Series. It also needs LOTS of power. Like, enough to power my whole house almost! They're also making smaller brains that are like, tiny and fit in your hand!
And then there's memory! Not the brain memory, but the memory that helps the game remember stuff. Micron is making super fast memory now, it’s like a cheetah! And Samsung is making memory that's… really good at remembering things! But, my brother says there's a problem. There isn’t enough memory to go around! That means everything might be harder to get.
They’re also making new boards to put everything on! MSI made a new one, and Gigabyte too! They have funny names.
Corsair is changing the boxes their memory comes in so you know it’s real. That's smart! And MSI is making a thing to stop the graphics card from, you know, catching fire again! That's also good.
It’s a lot of stuff, huh? My brother says it's gonna make games look even COOLER! I just wanna play them.
