WEATHER WARS: Are They Trying To Scare Us With Rain?

Nature’s Fury: Is This the New Normal?

Good morning, folks. Ronald Peabody here, and let me tell you, stepping outside this morning felt less like April and more like January! We’re getting a good dose of what I like to call “character building” weather here in Grand Rapids. Light freezing rain, they’re calling it. I call it a mess. 31 degrees, but feels like 21? That’s just the wind trying to punish honest, hardworking Americans.

Now, the so-called “experts” are predicting showers and storms all day Thursday, with a real possibility of severe weather tonight. Severe! It's always “severe” these days. Back in my day, a little rain didn't send everyone running for the hills. We built character! We went outside!

They’re saying we’ll get a brief reprieve on Friday – a relatively balmy 58 degrees – but don't let that fool you. Saturday? Back to the wet stuff, an 80% chance of precipitation. Eighty percent! Seems like we can’t even get a full day of sunshine anymore. And then Sunday, a drop back down to 44. This up and down, this constant shifting...it’s unsettling, frankly.

I’m not a scientist, and I don’t play one on the radio, but you have to wonder, is this constant fluctuation, these increasingly dramatic swings in temperature, part of some larger trend? Are we seeing the consequences of…well, let’s just say, a lack of respect for the natural order?

They’ve issued a severe thunderstorm watch, and they're predicting more of this nonsense in the coming days. Folks, be prepared. Stock up on essentials. And remember, a little hard work and fortitude can weather any storm – even the ones the weather reporters are needlessly hyping up. Stay safe out there, and keep a stiff upper lip.
