Is This What They Mean by “Global Warming”? A Look at Today’s… Unusual Weather

Folks, I’ve been watching the weather reports come in, and frankly, it’s a bit unsettling. Now, I’m not one to jump on the bandwagon with these climate change alarmists, but even I have to admit, this is… warm for March.

The National Weather Service is saying we’re looking at record highs out West and in the heartland. Ninety degrees in Texas? In March? Back in my day, March meant bundling up, not breaking out the shorts and t-shirts. Seems like just yesterday we were complaining about snow, and now they’re talking about fire concerns in the Rockies. Fire! In March!

They’re blaming this on, well, everything. Shifting jet streams, La Niña, El Niño, and, naturally, “man-made climate change.” I'm just saying, weather patterns change. They always have. My grandfather used to tell stories about scorching summers and mild winters, and that was before anyone even had a car, let alone a coal-fired power plant.

Now, thankfully, here in Grand Rapids, things are… normal. Relatively speaking. No watches, warnings, or anything like that. Just a regular ol’ March day. You can check out the details for Downtown Grand Rapids over at weather.com if you’re concerned. But honestly, I think people are getting a little too worked up. A warm spell doesn’t mean the sky is falling.

There's rain and snow predicted out in the Pacific Northwest and Rockies, so at least some of the country is getting what you’d expect in March. Still, 90 degrees in Texas… It makes a man think. And maybe, just maybe, makes a man reach for a glass of iced tea a little earlier than usual.
