LIBERTY & LUNCH WRAPS: A Week of Sensible Observances & Questionable Days.

A Week of… Observations
Folks, can you believe it’s almost April? Time just flies, doesn’t it? And with April comes a whole host of… well, let’s just call them “observances.” Now, I’m not one for all this “national day of…” business, frankly. Seems like every single thing gets a day dedicated to it these days. But, I suppose it’s good to be aware, and some of these things are worth acknowledging.
First off, Wednesday is April Fool’s Day. A bit of harmless fun, I suppose, though I always say a good joke should be funny, not malicious. Keep it clean, people! Now, following right after that – and this is where things get a little… complicated – is something called “Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action.” Honestly, folks, we’ve been “taking down” tobacco for decades with taxes and regulations. If people want to make a poor choice, that’s on them. Personal responsibility, that’s what I say. It’s also International Transgender Day of Visibility. I'm not sure what "visibility" entails, but everyone deserves to live their life, as long as they aren't infringing on anyone else's.
Thursday brings us Maundy Thursday for those who observe, and I wish them well. Also, apparently, it’s National Burrito Day. Now that I can get behind. A good burrito is a fine American staple, though I prefer mine with plenty of meat and just a sensible amount of… everything else. They're also marking World Autism Awareness Day. Again, awareness is good. Understanding our fellow citizens is important. And down in Florida, they’re having “Pascua Florida Day,” which sounds lovely, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Friday is Good Friday, a solemn day for many, and then – just to keep things lively – it’s also “World Party Day.” Seems a bit… conflicting, doesn’t it? But hey, to each their own.
Saturday? Well, apparently, it’s National Picky Eaters Day. Honestly, it’s a wonder anyone gets fed. A little variety never hurt anyone!
And a heads-up for next week: National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. Now that's an American tradition I can fully endorse. A classic, and a good reminder of simpler times.
So, there you have it. A week of… things. Remember to be respectful of others, enjoy your burritos, and don’t take everything too seriously. Especially on April Fool’s Day.
