A Week of Remembrance and Celebration – What’s Happening This Week?
Hello everyone, Leo Parks here. It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating…well, everything! And honestly, it’s keeping up already. This week is surprisingly packed with observances, ranging from days of reflection to joyful celebrations. I always feel a little overwhelmed trying to remember everything, so I thought I’d put together a quick rundown for anyone else who might be feeling the same way.
It all started today, April 6th, with a lot going on! It's the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – which, you know, seems like a good thing. Promoting peace through sports? Can’t argue with that. It's also Easter Monday for those observing, and if you’re feeling particularly Scottish, today’s National Tartan Day too! I always think the tartans are really pretty.
Tomorrow, April 7th, is World Health Day, a good reminder to, uh, maybe drink some water? And it’s also the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwanda Genocide. It’s…a really important day to remember and reflect, honestly. A tough one.
Things shift a bit later in the week. On Thursday, April 9th, Passover concludes for those celebrating, and we also take time to recognize National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day. Huge respect to those folks, definitely.
Friday is Orthodox Good Friday, and Saturday is Orthodox Holy Saturday, leading up to…
Sunday, April 12th! Orthodox Easter, a big celebration! And, believe it or not, also the International Day of Human Space Flight. Apparently, it's marking the first human in space. Pretty cool, right?
Plus, if you’re looking for local things to do, folks are saying grkids.com has a calendar of events happening around Grand Rapids. I haven’t checked it myself yet, but it sounds promising.
So yeah, a busy week! It’s nice to see so many different things being acknowledged, even if it is a little hard to keep track of everything. Hopefully, this helps a little. Have a good week, everyone!
