A Dampening of the American Spirit? Weather Report for April 1st, 2026

Folks, let’s talk about the weather. Not to sound like your grandmother, but it’s a topic that truly affects us all, doesn't it? And frankly, the reports coming in today are… concerning.

Here in the heartland, in McKinley Park, Chicago, we’re looking at a 90% chance of rain. Ninety percent! That’s practically guaranteed sogginess. Light rain this morning, they say, but don’t be fooled. Scattered thunderstorms are predicted for the afternoon. Thunderstorms in April? It feels…unnatural. A strong southwest wind, 15 to 25 miles per hour, will be whipping through, and I daresay, unsettling things.

Now, I'm no scientist, but I remember a time when April showers were a gentle thing. A blessing for the farmers, a chance for renewal. This feels… aggressive. Like nature herself is in a foul mood.

Up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the situation isn't much brighter, though details are a bit scarce as of this writing. They’re directing folks to The Weather Channel, which, and I’ll give credit where it’s due, has been named the world's most accurate forecaster for the years 2021-2024. Good for them. Still, relying on a cable channel for our understanding of God’s creation…it feels like a slippery slope.

And across Chicago proper, it’s just generally gloomy. Cloudy, a high of 61, a chilly 48 tonight. A mere 32% humidity – practically a desert! – but the rain, oh the rain, is coming.

Sunrise was at 6:38 this morning, and sunset will be at 7:12. It’s a shorter day, and with this kind of weather, it feels even shorter. Makes a man want to huddle inside with a good book and a strong cup of coffee.

Look, I’m not saying this is the end of the world. But a little sunshine and dry weather never hurt anyone. We need to remember our roots, our resilience. Don’t let a little rain dampen your spirits, folks. Or, in this case, a lot of rain. Stay strong, stay dry, and God bless America.
