LEARNING AND COOL SHOES ARE THE BEST!

Stuff Kids Like NOW! By Jerome Skinly, Age 7

Hi! I'm Jerome and I'm a reporter! My teacher, Mrs. Davis, said I could write about what kids like now. It’s REALLY different than what my big brother liked when he was little. He had fidget spinners! Can you BELIEVE it? Nobody likes those anymore! They're, like, SO last year.

Now it’s all about learning stuff! Like, not just in school, but on the computer! There’s this place called YouTube Kids and you can watch Dr. Binocs! He teaches you about EVERYTHING! Like, dinosaurs and space and why the sky is blue. It's not boring, I promise!

And there’s Khan Academy Kids! My friend Leo uses that and he says it's good for learning numbers and letters. It's not like, homework, it's just…fun learning!

But it's not all learning. There's this group called SKZ, which is short for Stray Kids. They're a K-Pop group and they're SUPER popular. Kids are drawing pictures of them and making TikToks! (My mom says TikTok is okay, but you have to be careful).

Speaking of TikTok, don't let your parents try to do the dances! It's embarrassing! My friend’s mom tried and it was… not good. Just let us do it, okay?

And clothes! Forget about matching outfits! That's for babies! You need a cool graphic tee, maybe with an anime character on it. And you HAVE to have Nike or Vans shoes. Anything else is… well, it’s just not cool.

My brother keeps saying “YOLO.” It makes everyone laugh! He doesn’t even know what it means anymore! Now we say “rizz” and “slay” and “bet.” But those words might be old tomorrow, so I don’t know!

Oh, and Facebook? My grandma uses Facebook. That's it.

My mom tries to be cool, but it’s better when she just…is herself. It’s weird when she tries too hard. And no kissing in front of my friends! That's just… awkward.

So that's what kids like now! Learning, cool clothes, and being real. And no fidget spinners! Okay, bye! I have to go watch Dr. Binocs. He's teaching about volcanoes! It's gonna be awesome!
