Things Feel A Little Strange, Hopefully It Passes Quickly

A Strange Calm Before… Something?

It’s been a weird week, honestly. Not bad, just…off. Everyone’s been talking about it down at the diner, and Old Man Hemlock’s been practically glued to his shortwave radio. It's all whispers, really. Talk of strange dreams, unsettling tides, and a general feeling of…dread.

The subject? Well, it’s…Cthulhu.

I overheard Mrs. Gable mentioning it while I was getting my coffee. Apparently, there are old stories, really old ones, about a monstrous being slumbering beneath the waves. She said some folks believe it’s just folklore, sailor’s tales to scare greenhorns. But then Mr. Abernathy, the librarian, chimed in, saying there are references to it in ancient texts – fragments, mostly, and really hard to decipher. He said something about non-Euclidean geometry and a city called R'lyeh. Honestly, it went right over my head.

I tried to look it up online, you know, to get the facts straight. But the internet seems…spotty. A lot of pages are just loading errors, or weird symbols. I mentioned this to Brenda at the hardware store, and she said her computer’s been doing the same thing. She thinks it's just a solar flare or something. Hopefully that’s all it is.

What's really unsettling is how everyone's acting. Usually, people around here argue about everything - the price of tomatoes, the mayor’s new parking plan… but now? It’s like everyone’s just…agreeing with each other. Too agreeable, if you ask me. It’s nice, in a way, but also kind of creepy.

Old Man Hemlock keeps muttering about “the Great Old One” and “the stars being right.” He's always been a bit eccentric, but even I feel a shiver down my spine when he says it.

Honestly, I’m hoping it’s just a phase. A weird, collective anxiety dream. Maybe everyone just needs a good night’s sleep. But…there’s this feeling, this weight in the air. Like something big is about to happen.

I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see. And maybe, just maybe, avoid looking too closely at the ocean. Just in case.
