A Time for Family, Faith, and Festivities – What’s Happening This Week in Grand Rapids

Well folks, can you believe it? Another year nearly in the books. It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying the warm weather, and now here we are, bundled up and celebrating the most wonderful time of the year. And let me tell you, Grand Rapids isn't letting the holiday spirit dim for a moment!

This week, as we close out 2025, there's a whole heap of opportunities to make lasting memories with loved ones. Of course, the centerpiece is the continuation of Christmas celebrations. It's good to see so many folks still honoring the true meaning of the season – family, faith, and goodwill towards man. And for those wanting to extend the visual splendor, both Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and LMCU Ballpark are continuing their dazzling light displays. Meijer Gardens has two options, actually, with both "Christmas Lite Show" and “ENLIGHTEN Presented by PNC Bank” illuminating the grounds. A little much, if you ask me, but folks seem to enjoy it.

Now, I know some folks are already looking ahead to the New Year. Perfectly understandable. We need to be thinking about a fresh start and building a brighter future. And Grand Rapids is ready to help you ring in 2026 in style. The Amway Grand Plaza is hosting their annual “New Year’s Eve Ballroom Bashes” – a classic, elegant way to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. If that’s a bit too formal, there are options at the AC Lounge and Mojo’s, offering a more… lively atmosphere. I'm sure that'll appeal to the younger crowd. There’s even a Black-Tie Gala for those who want to really dress to impress. A bit excessive in my opinion, but to each their own.

Just a heads-up for those planning further ahead: keep an eye out for “World of Winter 2026” kicking off on January 9th. It’s good to see our city embracing the season, even after the decorations come down.

So, whether you're attending a church service, enjoying a light display, or making plans for New Year’s Eve, remember what's truly important: spending time with those you care about and reflecting on the blessings in your life. God bless, and have a happy and safe week!
