A Tradition Under Threat: Protecting Our Children – and Our Heritage – One Name at a Time

Folks, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the direction this country is headed. Seems like common sense is getting harder and harder to find. And honestly, it’s extending to something as fundamental as naming your child. I recently dug into this, and let me tell you, the things people are trying to name their kids these days… it’s frankly alarming.

For generations, we’ve had a proud tradition of passing down strong, respectable names. Names that reflect family history, religious faith, and a sense of… well, decency. But now? It's all emojis and numbers. I saw a report – a reliable one, mind you – detailing attempts to saddle children with names like “F!nn” and “K8lyn.” Seriously? Is this a joke? What kind of future are we building when we can’t even spell a simple name correctly?

And it’s not just about spelling. There’s a blatant disregard for what names mean. I was shocked to learn that some folks actually tried to name their children “Adolf Hitler.” Adolf Hitler, people! Have we learned nothing from history? This isn't about free speech; it's about common decency and not glorifying evil. Thankfully, the courts have stepped in on that one – and others like “Messiah” and “Jesus Christ.” Though frankly, it shouldn't need a court order to tell you that's inappropriate.

It seems some folks are trying to push the boundaries, testing what they can get away with. “Baby Girl” or “Male”? Come on. Your child is a person, not a placeholder! And don’t even get me started on “Nutella.” A hazelnut spread? This is a child's name, not a dessert topping!

Now, I understand different cultures have different traditions. But even overseas, they're drawing the line. Iceland and Denmark have approved name lists - sensible! - and other countries are banning names that cause offense. Sweden and France won’t let you name your kid “Metallica” or, again, “Nutella.” They get it! It’s about respect, tradition, and protecting children from… well, from being saddled with ridiculous names.

Look, I’m a firm believer in freedom. But freedom comes with responsibility. And part of that responsibility is giving your child a name that they can be proud of, a name that connects them to their heritage, and a name that won’t subject them to ridicule or worse. Let’s reclaim some common sense, folks. Let’s protect our children, and our traditions, one name at a time.
