What Are the Kids Playing With Now? A Look at the Hottest Toys of 2026

It’s… a lot. That’s the first thing I noticed when I started looking into what toys are popular with kids right now. A lot. I went to Target the other day, just to… you know, get a feel for things, and honestly, it was overwhelming. So many colors, so many characters, so many things.

According to reports from stores like Target and magazines like Country Living, a few clear trends are emerging. Apparently, collaboration is huge. Barbie and Play-Doh are teaming up, which… makes sense, I guess? It’s colorful and creative. And it's not just Barbie! Everyone's doing it. There's even a Care Bears and Wicked collaboration! It’s all very exciting, if you can keep track of it all.

Movies are also a big influence, which, well, of course they are. Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon toys are flying off the shelves, especially the Dreamworks Dragons Tame & Train Interactive Toothless. I saw a little girl practically vibrating with excitement over a Stitch plush. It was adorable, honestly.

LEGOs are, predictably, still very popular. The Wild Animals Panda Family and Bluey’s Family House sets are getting a lot of attention, and I can see why. They're… well, they're LEGOs. You can’t really go wrong with LEGOs.

But it’s not just building blocks and plushies. There’s a lot of interactive stuff too. Furby is back (again!), and Bluey’s Hide and Seek Electronic Figure sounds pretty fun. They also have this thing called HEX BOTS Smart Gecko – it's a remote control toy, and I think it does… tricks? It seemed a little complicated.

For family fun, USAOPOLY's TAPPLE Disney Edition is a good pick. It’s a trivia-style game, and I think it’s good to encourage family time, you know?

There’s also something for the collector types. POP MART Labubu figures are apparently very popular with teens and even adults. And MAGNA-TILES Rail Racers are a new twist on the classic building tiles.

Oh! And GraviTrax has a Star Wars Death Star set! That seems… ambitious. Lots of little pieces.

Even slime is still going strong, but now it comes in really pretty packaging – Gui Gui Slime, they call it. Apparently, it’s about the aesthetic as much as the goo itself.

And finally, for those with a bit more energy, Connect 4 Frenzy is a fast-paced take on the classic game. Good for getting kids moving, I suppose.

So, yeah. That’s what the kids are playing with these days. It’s a whirlwind of characters, colors, and interactive fun. I'm a little tired just thinking about it, to be honest. But hey, at least I know what to get my niece’s birthday, right? Hopefully.
