Hot Dogs: Sandwich OR Salad?! (By Jerome Skinly, Age 7)
Hi! I’m Jerome and I’m a reporter for Jape News. Today I’m trying to figure out something REALLY important. Are hot dogs sandwiches? Or… salads?!
My mom makes me hot dogs sometimes. They have a bun, and stuff inside the bun. Like, the hot dog! So, I thought maybe it WAS a sandwich. Like, if you put ham and cheese in a bun, that’s a sandwich, right?
But then I heard grown-ups arguing! They said hot dogs are special. They're not just a sandwich. They're… hot dogs! It's like, they have their OWN thing going on. The people at the Hot Dog and Sausage Council (that sounds important!) said a hot dog is NOT a sandwich. They said it’s its own special food.
And get this! I learned about something called the Cube Rule. It's kinda tricky. It looks at where the crunchy stuff is. And the Cube Rule says hot dogs are actually like… tacos! Not sandwiches or salads! That’s SO weird.
Nobody said hot dogs were salads. That would be silly! You don’t put lettuce and tomatoes inside a hot dog usually. (Though, sometimes my dad does put tomatoes… but that’s different!)
So, I think the answer is… hot dogs are hot dogs! They're not sandwiches, and they’re definitely not salads. They're tacos, kinda. It's a tough question, but I think I figured it out! Now I’m hungry for a hot dog.
