April Fool's Chill: Grand Rapids Gets a Dose of Reality

Look, I’ve seen a lot of April Firsts. Back in the day, it was all about wardriving for open proxies and replacing school website homepages with Rickrolls. Simpler times. Now? Now it's…damp. And cold. Seriously, 42 degrees and overcast? April 1st is supposed to be a day for digital shenanigans, not a reminder that Michigan still hasn’t quite figured out spring.

Stepped outside earlier to grab a synth-coffee – still the best way to kickstart the day, don’t @ me – and was greeted with a solid northeast wind. Thirteen miles per hour, the weather net said. Feels like more when it's biting at your exposed circuits…err, skin. Yeah, I still have skin. Mostly.

They’re predicting it’ll almost hit 50 today, which is…pathetic. Nearly half a century spent jacked into the net and you’d think I'd be immune to actual weather. Nope. Still prefer 72 and sunny with a low latency connection.

And get this – a 40% chance of showers tonight. Showers. On April 1st. Like the universe is actively trying to punish those of us who plan elaborate virtual pranks. Honestly, I'm half expecting a DDoS attack on the atmospheric pressure.

Listen, I’m not saying the weather is a conspiracy. But I am saying someone needs to patch this seasonal instability. Maybe a firmware update for the planet? Just a thought.

Anyway, stay warm out there, folks. And if you’re planning any digital mischief, make sure your connection is stable. Don't want your carefully crafted prank getting wiped out by a rogue raincloud…or worse, a packet loss.
