Seriously? October Already?
Look, I've been staring at screens since before most of you were born, alright? I remember when checking the weather meant decoding static on a BBS and hoping someone with a weather station in their basement actually updated it. Now? It's all pretty pictures and algorithms. Still… even I am a little thrown by this.
It’s September 30th, 2025, and I’m looking out the window here in Grand Rapids and it feels… wrong. Fifty-eight degrees and sunny? This isn’t late September weather, this is…August trying to cling on for dear life. The ten-day forecast? Low eighties. Eighty. I swear, climate change is going to give me a glitch.
But okay, let's pan out. It's not just me being a grumpy old digital native. The whole planet seems to be having a bit of a meltdown. Down in the Caribbean, Hurricane Imelda just formed and is already making a mess. Two people lost their lives in Cuba already, between that and the remnants of Humberto. Humberto itself is still churning, heading towards the Bahamas and Bermuda. Honestly, these names are getting recycled faster than old ROMs.
And if that wasn't enough, out in the Atlantic, Post-Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle is just screaming past the Azores with hurricane-force winds. It’s like the ocean decided to have a bad day.
The Pacific Northwest and Northern California aren't getting off easy either. Waves of showers and thunderstorms. Good ol’ reliable Pacific frontal systems. Nothing new there, but still… everything’s just amplified, you know?
The Weather Channel – yeah, the one that keeps getting called the most accurate by those ForecastWatch folks – is saying the swells and high surf from Imelda and Humberto are going to cause some serious problems up and down the East Coast. Rip currents, dangerous marine conditions… stay out of the water if you don’t need to be in it.
Look, I'm not saying the sky is falling. I’m just saying…check your forecasts. Stay aware. And maybe…just maybe…appreciate the weirdness. Because honestly, in the world we’re living in, 'normal' is a setting nobody seems to have anymore.
You can find the latest from the National Weather Service at weather.gov, and yeah, Weather Channel at weather.com. And if you're local to west Michigan, wzzm13.com has a decent local feed. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go try to find a digital sweater. It feels like I need one.
