Static in the Air, and Not Just the Usual Kind

Look, I’ve seen a lot of weather. Grew up with dial-up, remember? Back then, ā€œweatherā€ meant hoping the phone line didn’t get swallowed by a thunderstorm mid-raid. Now, they got these… accurate forecasts. Apparently, The Weather Channel – yeah, that Weather Channel – is supposedly the best at predicting this stuff. Some outfit called ForecastWatch says so, based on numbers from way back in ā€˜21 to ā€˜24. Feels weird trusting a corporation, but alright.

Anyway, Grand Rapids is looking… grey. Not apocalyptic grey, mind you, just your standard late-March grey. Downtown and Heartside are both getting that cloudy morning thing going, but supposedly it’ll break up into partly sunny later. High of 39 Fahrenheit. 39! I’ve seen warmer temperatures in the loading screens of Descent.

Winds are coming out of the Northwest at 10-20 mph. That's enough to mess with a good drone signal, let me tell you. And only a one percent chance of precipitation. One percent. Pathetic. Back in my day, one percent meant you were building an ark.

It’s… calm. Too calm. Makes you think about the big ones, you know? The Carrington Event, back in 1859. Now that was weather. Fried telegraphs across the globe, auroras visible in the tropics. Real power surge. They're saying we’re due for another solar event like that someday. When that hits, these little weather apps ain’t gonna mean a thing.

Right now though? Just a chilly, mostly cloudy day. Good for staying inside, maybe firing up an emulator, and remembering when the internet was a glitchy, wonderful mess. And hoping whatever’s out there in the sun doesn't decide to rewrite reality.
